About Destination
Nawalgarh
Destination Nawalgarh is an innovative program developed in collaboration with the Anandilal Podar Trust (recognizing Mahatma Gandhi as its first Chairman Trustee). It offers a comprehensive exploration of Social Entrepreneurship, Sustainability, and Indian History & Culture, blending theoretical knowledge with hands-on experiences. We invite you to delve into this hidden treasure nestled in the heart of Rajasthan, rich in history and timeless narratives, for exploration, transformation, and meaningful impact.
A highlight is the Heritage Walk through famous havelis adorned with beautiful frescoes and temples, showcasing the area's rich past. Interactive workshops with local artisans provide practical experience in traditional crafts like pottery and puppetry, deepening appreciation for India's artistic legacy. Through immersive short-term study programs, students engage with the vibrant lifestyle, surrounded by rich heritage and the genuine warmth of local communities, equipping them to become responsible global citizens.

The Legacy of The Anandilal Podar Trust
Established in 1921, the Anandilal Podar Trust has been a trailblazer in education, culture, and social welfare in India for over a hundred years. It is deeply connected to India’s freedom struggle and Gandhian principles, embodying a rich tradition of national service and philanthropy.
The Trust's inception can be traced back to a significant event when Mr. Anandilal Podar contributed ₹2,01,000/- to Mahatma Gandhi for the Tilak Swaraj Fund, marking him as the first major business supporter of the independence movement. In appreciation, Gandhi took on the role of the first Chairman Trustee.
Founding Visionaries
The trust was co-founded by some of India’s prominent leaders:
-
Mahatma Gandhi
-
Madan Mohan Malviya (Founder of BHU)
-
Jamnalal Bajaj (Gandhiji’s “fifth son”)
-
Anandilal B. Podar
As Gandhi and Bajaj shifted their focus to the freedom struggle, Malviya remained as Chairman until 1946. The Podar family later broadened the trust’s impact through significant initiatives led by Raja Ramdeo Anandilal Podar, Dr. Ramnath Anandilal Podar, and currently Mr. Kantikumar R. Podar.
